Local Planning
Planning in Forest Home falls under the Town of Ithaca. See the Planning Department’s section of the town’s website for the full plans and codes.
FHIA monitors planning changes and notifies Forest Home residents about proposals that might affect us. When there is a strong consensus, the FHIA board will submit comments to the town, but more often the board will circulate information and encourage individuals to make their own comments.
Here are some recent examples.
The town’s Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2014. Not everything in the plan will happen, but it gives a good overview of the long-term trends and thinking.
As Cornell continues to grow, housing pressure led the town to introduce rules about Rental Property in 2017.
Of particular interest to Forest Home was the Stream Setback law, introduced in 2012. The original proposal was substantially modified after comments.
